Nick Sparrow (BA 1985) FCA is Director of Trinity Development and Alumni – the body responsible for Trinity College’s development activities. He left Newbridge College in 1980 to study Experimental Physics in Trinity. Quite what Physics got out of this arrangement his School politely remains silent, and Nick mumbles something about a getting a broad education and is offended by crass queries about his grades.
Physics’ loss became Accountancy’s gain (or the other way around?) as he joined KPMG – that they posted him to Libya for a year he no longer takes personally. Back in Ireland, he became Administrator of Belvedere College – the Jesuits obviously not put off by his Dominican education – and it was there where he cut his teeth in fundraising. An opportunity in Trinity presented itself, and to great fortune and delight joined Trinity to drive the fundraising strategies for the university’s philanthropic priorities – among them, a major cancer initiative being driven by Trinity and St James’s Hospital.
