I really can’t put into words what an incredible and worthwhile experience
the 2013 Rugby Legends Cycle was (but I will try!). As a beginner and
absolute novice in cycling terms (a daily 4km commute to work on the bike
was the height of my experience), I had huge reservations in the lead up to
the cycle but once we hooked up with the group in Donegal for the first stage
and got on the road, the supportive nature of all the cyclists and volunteers
made me believe I complete the challenge ahead.

Beforehand I never thought I could survive the whole week on the bike, going 870km
from one end of the country to the other, but the encouragement of the group and
knowing what the cycle is aid of is something that spurred me on. Everybody was
so friendly and the novelty of cycling along and chatting with whoever was cycling
beside me (be it a rugby legend or anyone else) never wore off. Everybody was made
to feel so welcome as part of the group and the organisation that goes into the week
is top class. And while the craic on the bikes during the day was enjoyable, the sessions
at night were even more so!

The cycle itself was a huge physical and mental challenge
of course, but once you set your mind to it and with the encouragement of everyone
around you, it is a challenge that is worth doing – the feeling of joy and scenes of
jubilation at the finish line at Mizen Head is something that I will never forget.

Roll on 2014 – cycle hard, party harder!

Roisin Farron

Had a blast on the 2013 Malin to Mizen CROSS Rugby Legends, thank you.

A wonderful blend of tarmac, lycra, beer and blether. Even time for a little roadside
cast or two on the mighty River Moy at Ballina. A great route, great organisation and
a great crowd to spend the week with, hailing from all parts, decades and cycling abilities.

I would recommend this to anyone who can even vaguely stay on a bike.
Stamina is needed, but mainly after dark, trying to keep up with 3 thirsty Wallaces.

Many thanks. Same time next year?

I first heard about the Mizen to Malin through a keen rugby
supporting friend. It did not take any persuasion for me to
participate as I had recently taken up cycling as a hobby
and this was a great opportunity to contribute to charity,
meet true rugby legends and do one of Ireland’s iconic cycles.

At first I was anxious about taking part, not being at the peak
of fitness but through some preparation and the camaraderie
of my fellow cyclists the challenge was easily met.

The support team, the evening activities and the truly great
ambiance made the whole event one of the most enjoyable
experiences I’ve had and I will definitely do it again next year
hail, rain or snow, but I’m sure we will once again be blessed
with beautiful weather.

John Nolan

At the start I was quite apprehensive about whether or not I would
be able to keep up, or even complete the cycle at all. By the end
of the first day that turned in to pure excitement and it only got better
as the week went on.

It was really well organized and the camaraderie
amongst the ‘legends’, cyclists and volunteers made the distances
shorter and the nights longer! Everyone was up for a laugh.

It was an amazing feeling to arrive in Malin Head with everyone.

It was a real team event. I would do it again in the morning!

Sheelagh O'Neill

What a truly fabulous week! We explored some of Ireland’s
most beautiful scenery, and what better way than by bicycle
when you have the time to actually have a look around and
take it all in.

Every cyclist on the trip was really friendly and fun, so we passed
the time in the saddle having the chats and getting to know each
other. The pace was very doable because we worked as a team.
Also, the sun shone for almost the entire week (apart from one
wet afternoon), which was magnificent.

Just one word of warning, those rugby boys can drink!
